Amazing view from Town Hall in GdanskThe town hall in Gdansk (called Ratusz in Polish) allows visitors to enter and to get to the top. There you will have an awesome view over the city center. While visiting in Gdansk we walked all the way up. How many steps? Not sure because we both got different results. Come with us to the top of the Town Hall in Gdansk.

The town hall in Gdansk

The Main Town Hall in Gdańsk houses the History Museum of the City of Gdańsk. However, if you don’t have time to visit the museum (that is quite big) you can still enjoy the view from the top of the building. Then you just let the staff know that you want a ticket to visit the tower. And be warned… you need to buy your tickets at the bottom of the building. There’s no one there to stop you from entering and going up to the tower, however, you will not be allowed to enter if you don’t have a ticket. This means that you will have to walk all the way back down for the tickets.

The entrance fee is 5 zloty (2017) so it’s not expensive to enter.

Stairways to the top

Ok, so we decided to count the steps at the stairs to reach the top. According to me, there are 187 steps from the tower entrance to the top. There are also 92 steps before that (to get to the tower itself). Mini got 192 steps and 84 to get there. Either way there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the top. Internet didn’t provide us with the accurate number of steps so if someone of you count them, please let us know your number!

The good thing is that you can walk at your own pace so no need to hurry. And once at the top, you will know why all the stairs were worth it! And one more thing. This is only the second highest building in the city. If you want to get an even more bird’s eye view you’ll have to head to the  St. Mary’s Church and walk to the top there instead.

And here comes the reward! After reaching the top during the summer you are bound to be warm and hot. Here the wind gives you a perfect breeze and you feel refreshed immediately. And the view is incredible. You feel safe being up here and the wind brings up the sounds from the street musicians down below.

The houses are tall but slim and it looks super cool from up here. You can walk around the whole tower so you get different views depending on where you stand. Well worth a visit!

Thank you for dropping in and thanks for the nice comment. You should definitely go. It is a great town and it is cheap too. For example, a beer and a coffee were 3 euro!
